Home Sweet Home

Our friend Lise just ‘dopted a baby. His name is Lucas and he is a  Morkie (Yorkie and Maltese mix). Lise needed to ‘dopt a new baby cuz Missy, her 15 year old baby, crossed over Rainbow Bridge.

We haven’t seen Lucas yet but Dad went to the airport with Lise to pick him up. Yup, he flew all the way here by himself. I would have been extra scared but Dad said Lucas didn’t think it was a big deal. He was sad to leave his Mom but was excited about having a new Mom and a forever home of his own.

He came in a crate that had a place for his water and food. Dad said it is a nice crate and will be a good place to go when he wants some alone time. When you have a sister like DixieLee, you know how important “alone time” is. Lucas has two sister cats and two brother birds so I’m sure he will like having his own special place.

Not all dogs have crates but I think they are important. It’s nice to have a quiet place to nap when Mom and Dad are not at home:

I made a list of some other things every dog (and cat) needs when they go to a new forever home.

1. Food and water bowls. Of course they need to have extra good food that goes in the bowls and fresh water all the time. And don’t forget they need treats. Lots of treats.

2. Bed. We are allowed on the bed and furniture but we also have our own beds. Well, they aren’t real beds but extra soft blankets in our crates to snuggle in.

3. Collars and leashes. Pets should wear their collars all the time because that is where their tags go. One of the first things a dog should learn is how to walk nice on a leash. If they walk nice, their humans will like taking walks with them.

4. Identification. Town tags and rabies tags attached to a collar are super important if a pet gets lost. Pets should also have a micro chip. Micro chips are teenie tiny so you don’t even know you have one but if you get lost, they are very helpful in getting home faster.

5. Grooming supplies. I don’t totally agree about grooming supplies cuz I hate baths but I do like having special towels to get wiped off from the rain and snow.

6. Toys. I saved the most important thing for last. Actually it was a toss up between toys and treats but good toys are super important. They are so important that I had Dad take a cuddly Zanie toy to Lucas when they went to the airport. Lise says he carries it around all the time. She said it is almost as big as him but he will grow into it.

If a human has all of these things ready when they bring home a new pet, they will have almost every thing they will need. They will only have to remember to add lots of hugs and kisses every day and then they will really have every thing.

Just so you know, we have gift baskets designed especially to welcome new pets to their forever home.  They are To The Rescue for dogs and Kit Kat Kit for cats.  You can see them on our website.

LOST AND FOUND

I saw a notice on Facebook today about a dog that is missing and his humans are trying to find him. I am worried about him because I know he is super scared and wants to go home but maybe he doesn’t remember the way.

That’s why his humans posted his picture on Facebook and asked everybody who lives sort of near him to help him.

I hope getting lost never happens to you but if it does, here are a few things your humans can do to help you find your way home faster.

1. Make Posters. In SUPER BIG letters it should say “LOST DOG” (or CAT, cuz cats can get lost too).

The poster should have a big picture of you, in color, big enough to easily see from not close. Some peoples put a couple more pictures to show different angles or close ups of marking.

Don’t forget to add telephone numbers so peoples call and give updates of sightings etc.

2. Hang the posters all around town on poles and ask if you can put them in places like stores where lots of peoples go. The more peoples who see the posters, the more peoples who will know you are lost if they see you.

3. Leave posters or fliers at houses around the area where you were last seen. Leave them in doors and on car windshield. (NOT in Post Office Boxes… that’s a no no).

4. Post a notice on Facebook and other social media places and ask others to share the notice. Again, make sure there are photos and a phone number and tell where you were last seen.

5. Call the Police, Shelters and vets. These are good places for peoples to bring found animals when they don’t know how to get in touch with the owners. Pets can wander far so check with shelters etc. a little far away.

6. Place an ad in the local newspaper. Lots of peoples read the newspapers.

Getting lost is a very scary. If you do get lost making sure you have good identification can get you home faster. An up to date tag from your Vet and/or the Town where you live are good. Your people can get a tag with your name and their telephone number on it at most pet stores.

And if you don’t have a micro chip, get one right away. Some dogs, like DixieLee, can slip their collars but a micro chip is put inside you so it can’t get lost. It doesn’t hurt at all to get one.

Your humans have to make sure it is registered and up to date. When we moved, Mom called the micro chip place and updated our files.

Most Shelters and Vets have a little machine that can read the micro chip and find out where you belong.

So, the best thing is not to get lost but if you do, make sure your humans know the ways to get you back home safe and fast.

Zeva

Why Gift Baskets for Pets?

The other day, a lady asked Mom what she did for work. Mom said she made gift baskets for people and for pets. The lady said “Why would anyone buy a gift basket for a pet?”

I just rolled my eyes. You would get a gift basket for a pet for the same reasons you would get a gift basket for people. Pets aren’t that different from people when it comes to getting gifts. We like getting gifts. Gifts make us feel special.

People like getting gift baskets because a gift basket is many gifts in one. Our people gift baskets have lots of different kinds of treats in them that people like. There are cookies and candies and coffee or tea. People can open a different gift every day for a lot of days.

It’s the same for pets. Our pet gift baskets have different kinds of toys and treats. It’s lots of fun to open the basket and find not one toy but two or three and not one treat but lots. We like getting a different gift every day for lots of days too.

I know that one of the companies that makes gifts for dogs sends their gifts in a plain box. That’s okay because some pets, especially cats and DixieLee, like playing in boxes. We do things a little differently at Paw PalsBoutique. We do ship our gift baskets in plain boxes so cats and dogs like DixieLee can still have a plain box to play in but we like our gift basket to be pretty as well as fun. I like pretty. Mom tells me I am pretty so pretty must be a good thing.

Some of our gift baskets are made in boxes but we use boxes that are not plain. Some of our gift baskets are made in baskets that can be used to store things like toys and we even make some gift baskets in pretty dinner bowls!

All of our gift baskets are made even prettier by wrapping them in cello and adding a super pretty bow! Super pretty bows are important because they make the people getting the gift feel extra special.

When would anyone give a pet gift basket? One of the times is when a family pet crosses over Rainbow Bridge. Pets are a big part of the family and when one crosses over, people don’t know how to say how sorry they are. A Paw Print On The Heart gift basket says what words can’t.

A gift basket is a great way to welcome a new pet to the household. A special birthday or just to let a favorite pet know how special they are. There are so many whens.

We love making gift baskets for pets so that can feel extra special. So, when you want a pet or a person who loves their pet feel extra special, give us a call and we will make an extra special gift basket for you.

Zeva

Bomb Cyclone

From watching the TV news, I see that lots of places are having really, really cold weather this year. Dog that live in places that are cold every year know that being outside when it is really, really cold can be dangerous. It can make you sick or even died! So, for our friends who live in places where it isn’t usually this cold, here are some tips on what you need to do to be safe.

1. Be smart. Just because you are a big dog or have a furry coat does not mean you can stay outside for long times. Big dogs and dogs with thick coats need to be as careful as small dogs and dogs with short coats.

There are jackets and sweaters for all size dogs. If you are going to be outside, like going for a hike with your humans, a jacket or sweater will keep you warm.

2. Stay hydrated. This is especially true if you are hiking or playing in the snow. Even though snow is made from water, it is NOT good to eat snow. Snow, like puddles, can have buggies that can make you have a tummy ache or bad poops.

3. Salted walkways. I know I’ve said this before but it is important. Peoples use salt to make the snow melt on sidewalks and roads. It is a good thing for cars and peoples who wear shoes but a bad thing for dogs’ paws.

If you do need to walk where there is salt, make sure your human washes your feet as soon as you get home and NEVER lick the salt from your feel yourself cuz it will make you sick.

Some dogs wear boots which makes walking on salted sidewalks and roads okay.

4. Salt is not the only thing that can make your feet hurt. Snow can get caught in between your pads, especially on dogs with long hair. The snow balls up and makes walking difficult.

Boots keep snow from getting between your paws and washing your feet as soon as you get inside also helps.

5. Antifreeze. Antifreeze is something that people put in their cars to make them work when it is cold. Antifreeze smells and tastes sweet but it is POISON. If you see a puddle of antifreeze in your yard, walk away immediately.

There are lots of things we need to be careful of when it gets really, really cold so be smart and don’t over do or take chances. Stay warm and safe.

Tell your cat friends... they need to be safe from the really, really cold too.

Love,

Zeva

Being Top Dog

I didn’t wake up one day and find myself as Chief Canine Officer of a pet gift basket company. It took years of hard work and lots of learning.

I started my life in a non-kill shelter in South Carolina. When I was just a baby, I was put in a van with my litter mates and other shelter dogs and driven to New England where my chances of being adopted were better.

My picture was put on petfinders.com along with thousands of other dogs looking for forever homes. I got lucky when my Mom saw my picture and called the rescue people. I was so little and kind of scared. Mom and Dad were really nice and before long we were a real family.

I had a big job to do. Being the dog of a family is a very responsible position, especially when you are adopted into a family where other dogs used to live until the crossed over to Rainbow Bridge.

I got to go to Mom’s Studio everyday with her. I watched how she worked at the gift basket business. Peoples seemed to like getting gift baskets and I knew that pets liked to get gifts too so why not start making gift baskets for pets.

Mom liked the idea and we made a special section in the Shoppe just for pet gift baskets. We would think about what kinds of things would be liked best. Toys are always fun and of course, treats,

My job can be challenging but it is also very rewarding. One of the percs is that I get to taste test the treats and play with the toys we consider using.

When DixieLee came to live with us I trained her good and now we are even more selective in what toys and treats we put in our gift baskets. Like, now we only buy treats that are made in the USA.

We have grown over the past six years and I am looking forward to helping more pets received high quality gift baskets from the peoples who love them.

To see our large selection of gift baskets for dogs and cats, just go to pawpalsboutique.com You’ll be glad you did.

Love,

Zeva, Chief Canine Officer
